Story of Trimbakeshwar Temple

Trimbakeshwar temple is something special which is associated with Gautam Rishi. It is said that in ancient times Trimbakeshwar place used to be the Tapovan of Gautam Rishi and once in anger a cow killing happened by his hands due to which he got the sin of cow killing. And to free himself from this sin Gautam Rishi did penance of Lord Shiva and requested Lord Shiva to incarnate Ganga.

Lord Shiva accepted the request of Gautam Rishi and sent the holy Godavari which is also called Ganga of South. And not only this Gautam Rishi also requested Lord Shiva to be established here forever and Lord Shiva also accepted his request because Lord Shiva was very pleased with him and then Lord Shiva was established here.

Inside the temple you are shown darshan of Shivling in the form of screen which you can see or you can see them through mirror because the main sanctum sanctorum is quite downwards so you cannot see below.

The special thing about this Jyotirlinga is that inside it you get to see three small Shivlings which are worshipped in the form of Shri Brahma Vishnu and Mahesh.

Architecture and History of Trimbakeshwar Temple

The specialty of this temple is that it is considered as one of the 12 Jyotirlinga temples whose tenth place is this. This temple is called Trimbakeshwar because here deity’s idol is established in the form of Shivling.

This stone is a special type of stone which is called basalt stone. So this was built between 1740 to 1760 this temple was reconstructed.

Friends darshan in the temple has been completed if you want to come for darshan in the temple then you can come here any day of the year but the time of crowd remains in Sawan time because today when we came there was crowd but we had taken donation ticket so our darshan happened a little quickly.
