About Kedarnath Dham
Kedarnath Dham is located in Rudraprayag district of Uttarakhand state in India. Kedarnath Dham is one of the most famous temples of India dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is considered one of the twelve Jyotirlinga temples. This temple is located at an altitude of about 3584 meters above sea level.
The trek to Kedarnath temple is about 16 km long where lakhs of devotees reach for darshan. This year the doors of Kedarnath Dham will open from 2 May 2025 and will remain open till 23 October 2025. In this way the doors of all the four Dhams will also open.

How to Reach Kedarnath
You can reach Kedarnath Dham by bus train or flight. If you want to go by bus then you have to reach Haridwar or Rishikesh from your city.
- After that you will get buses from Haridwar which run from outside Haridwar railway station to Sonprayag. Both government and private buses are available.
- These buses run only from 4 AM to 9.30 AM from Haridwar to Sonprayag. It takes about seven hours to reach Sonprayag.
- The distance from Haridwar to Sonprayag is about 220 km. Government bus tickets range from ₹600 to ₹700 per person and private bus tickets range from ₹900 to ₹1000.
- Private bus tickets can be booked from travel agent shops near the bus stand.
Reaching Kedarnath through Train
If you want to go by train you can reach Haridwar or Rishikesh railway station from your city and from there you can reach Sonprayag by bus.
- If you want to go by flight then you can reach Dehradun Jolly Grant Airport by flight. From Dehradun you can reach Haridwar or Rishikesh and from there you can reach Sonprayag through buses.
- If you want to go with your family or group you can book taxis or tempo travelers from travel agents outside Haridwar bus stand.
- The price of four seater taxi ranges from ₹4000 to ₹5000 per day. The price of seven seater car ranges from ₹6000 to ₹7000 per day.
- The price of twelve seater tempo traveler ranges from ₹9000 to ₹10000 per day. You can also go from Haridwar to Sonprayag through sharing taxi in which ticket price ranges from ₹800 to ₹1000 per person.
Stay and Food at Sonprayag
After reaching Sonprayag you can stay in hotels either in Sonprayag or nearby Sitapur. Along with hotels dormitories are also available.
- Hotels cost from ₹2000 to ₹4000 and dormitories cost from ₹400 to ₹500. The price varies according to the crowd. In Sonprayag you will also get cloak room facility to keep your luggage.
- The cost is ₹50 for small luggage bags and ₹100 for big luggage valid for two days. For food you will get many restaurants and dhabas in Sonprayag.
- A normal thali costs from ₹200 to ₹300. You can stay at Sonprayag that night. That will complete your Day One.
