It is believed that Guru Dronacharya meditated here and his son Ashwatthama was born at this place. Lord Shiva blessed the cave by making milk-like nectar drip for Ashwatthama. Today, water drips from the cave ceiling on the Shivling. This is why the temple is also called Drona Cave.
